Sue Wilkie,
Art Therapy in Malvern

What is Art Therapy?

When words may be difficult to find, art therapy helps to express difficult emotions and thoughts through creative techniques like drawing, painting and weaving. It can be held in groups or as 1:1 sessions.

About our expert

Sue is a registered art psychotherapist and part of Malvern Community Art Therapy, a project set up in 2023 with Genevieve Collier.

Art therapy works emotionally, cognitively, psychologically, and physically (e.g. Sue works with people recovering from a stroke) For emotional and psychological distress including trauma, art therapy has been shown to have a longer lasting impact than cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

Sue’s qualification is a Master of arts with distinction in Art Psychotherapy Practice from Leeds Beckett University. Before training as an art therapist and qualifying in 2020, Sue worked as an art teacher and head of art in three secondary schools in Birmingham, and then in Leominster for 26 years.
